While bees across North America have been dropping like flies this year, one D.C. bee in particular still buzzes strong — perhaps stronger than ever. Buzzlife Productions, organizers of the infamous Cubik party held at Nation up until its close last year, has been hard at work to make summer 2007 as electroneriffic as possible.
Longtime Buzz DJ and hive worker Muramasa said that the close of Nation has “really reminded us of our roots and not take anything for granted. Plus, it put us in a great position to work with other promoters and try out some new venues."
Things got a little quiet in the second half of 2006 for Buzz (although, who didn’t have a ridiculous time at Cool Whip and Electric Avenue?) while the company regrouped and formulated its plans for 2007. Avenue may not have been the best venue choice, but it proved that Buzz was flexible and willing to try new things to keep the EDM scene alive and thriving in D.C.
This Friday marks the first of no less than seven major events for Buzz this summer — The White Party at Five. The premise is simple: wear something white. And if you don't, you'll look a little out of place. Muramasa claims that Buzz is "going balls to the wall crazy" for the event and has dumped a lot of dough into the decor. There's even going to be face painting, and Buzz maestro Scott Henry will be spinning an extended set until the wee hours of the morning.
In the queue for Buzz are the 2007 Starscape Festival in Baltimore June 9th, Paul Van Dyk at 9:30 June 14th, Steve Lawler at 9:30 June 30th, a Firecracker party at Fur on July 3rd and Planet of the Drums at 9:30 July 21st and. To top the summer off, Buzz has been asked by Virgin Festival organizers to help collaborate and produce the Virgin Festival Dance Tent this year which will include performances by Sasha & Digweed, Danny Tenaglia, Booka Shade, Deep Dish, The Crystal Method and more.
Buzz even has one event in the works for 2008 already, one of its biggest undertakings ever — The Buzz Boat. The company will be taking a couple thousand EDM fans on a cruise for a few days of raving in the waves of the big blue sea.
Buzzlife presents The White Party, with Scott Henry and Suneel @ Five 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. June 1. Free if you wear white and arrive before 11 p.m. Reduced admission after 11 p.m. with white clothes.
