Our itinerary: Photowalk: Water Lillie and Lotus Blossom - This is open to all skill and equipment level.
It only happens once a year, the water lilie and lotus blossom at Kenilworth Aquatic Garden. It is the highlight of the park. Acres of flowers and lush landscape. Lilly pads, birds, animals, turtles and more. It's beautiful and tranquil, tucked away in a neighborhood that's not very economically developed.
Admission: Free
Camera equipment: Macro and LONG lens. Point and shoot are always welcomed.
What to pack: BUG SPRAY AND WATER! We'll be in the midst of a Washington summer.
Directions: Metro is not really convenient so driving or car pool is strongly suggested.
From the southbound service road of Kenilworth Avenue south of Eastern Avenue, make a right onto Douglas Street. At the end of Douglas make another right onto Anacostia Avenue and go up about a block and a half to the entrance on the left. There is normally adequate free parking. For detailed directions to the Aquatic Gardens, click for a word document (33KB). For Kenilworth Recreation Park take 295 to the Minnesota Avenue Exit and go west on Nannie Helen Burroughs.
